May 2015: Brooklyn Depot

A relatively new opening in Surfer's Paradise on the Gold Coast, this joint is away from the main stretch, housed in the 4217 building. Done up with a few different seating/eating areas, you can choose from sitting at the counter, in booths, at cocktail-style tables, at benches, or at lower seats with barrels for tables. It has a laidback vibe, and is great for casual dining.

Bring your appetite, because the burgers are pretty big. Definitely value for money, they go for between $12 to $14. There are also the sides you can order separately, usual culprits like shoestring fries (with the option to add on extra toppings like cheese, bacon, and frickles - their fried pickle coins), onion rings (actual onion slices deep-fried), salad, and coleslaw.

They do also do hot dogs, but really, the draw is the burgers.

Going back to the burgers, they are ingredient-packed, served on a brioche bun, and rather photogenic. I would recommend the Wisenheimer (pork belly, green apple slaw, truffle mayo make for a great flavour combination, although that pork belly tends to the fatty side) and the Flip the Bird (pulled BBQ chicken, bacon, slaw, guacamole, BBQ sauce). The Chicky Babe is also a good option, with properly crispy but not overcooked chicken.

Service staff were also cheerful and friendly.

Definitely recommend this place.
